Friday quiz – how well do you know your heritage railways?
Last year’s quiz on railway stations provoked a huge response and it was amazing how quickly so many of you could correctly name all eight stations shown on the map extracts. So we thought the perfect topic for our first map extract quiz of 2013 would be heritage railway stations.
There are fans of steam engines up and down the country and an army of volunteers often keep these heritage railways running, ensuring the stations, lines and trains themselves are restored and maintained for the inevitable flood of visitors. As well as being able to ride the trains along the lines, visitors can often take part in special events such as Sunday lunch on board, real ale evenings, Thomas the Tank Engine events and even murder mystery evenings – they really do have something for everyone to enjoy.
Many of the heritage railways are in beautiful countryside and perfect for a family day out with a picnic and walk incorporated – there’s even a walk near a heritage railway on our blog already.
So, time to challenge yourself with our eight OS MasterMap extracts – let us know the name of the railway stations featured. We’ve picked the main station for arrivals/departures for each heritage railway. Send us your answers on the blog…

Hi Gemma,
I think number 3 is the Watercress Line at Alton in Hampshire?

5 ?
6 ?
7 Toddington Gloucester and Warwickshire Railway
